The Voltmeter Does Not Indicate Voltage

DEFINITION: The Voltmeter on the Instrument Cluster does not operate. The Fuel Gauge, the Temperature Gauge, the Oil Pressure Gauge, and the CHECK GAUGES indicating lamp may or may not operate. The Battery and MIL indicating lamps may or may not operate. Other indicating lamps may operate as determined by the system status.

  1. Place the Ignition Switch in the Run position.
  2. Observe the CHECK GAUGES indicating lamp on the Instrument Cluster.
  3. Observe the Battery Indicating Lamp on the Instrument Cluster.
  4. Observe the SERVICE ENGINE SOON Malfunction Indicating Lamp (MIL) on the Instrument Cluster.
  5. Place the Ignition Switch in the Off position.

Do the CHECK GAUGES indicating lamp illuminate or do the other gauges operate?

Do the Battery Indicating Lamp and the SERVICE ENGINE SOON Malfunction Indicating Lamp (MIL) illuminate when the Ignition Switch is in the Run position?

Go to Step 3

Go to Gauges and Warning Lamps Do Not Operate .

  1. Disconnect the Instrument Cluster.
  2. Connect a test lamp between Instrument Cluster connector Cavity 31 for the PNK (39) wire and ground.
  3. Place the Ignition Switch in the Run position.
  4. Observe the test lamp.
  5. Place the Ignition Switch in the Off position.

Does the test lamp light with the Ignition Switch in the Run position?

  1. Locate and repair the open circuit in the PNK (39) wire between Splice S213 and the Instrument Cluster connector Cavity 31.
  2. Reconnect the Instrument Cluster.

Are the repairs complete?
