The Battery And The MIL Lamps Do Not Illuminate

DEFINITION: The Battery, AIR BAG, BRAKE, ANTILOCK, Daytime Running Lamp, and SERVICE ENGINE SOON lamps are not illuminated on the Instrument Cluster when the Ignition Switch is in the Run position. The Voltmeter and other analog gauges may or may not operate. The CHECK GAUGES lamp may or may not illuminate. Other indicating lamps operate as determined by the system status.

Does the Voltmeter on the Instrument Cluster display battery voltage when the Ignition Switch is in the Run position?

Go to Step 2

Go to Gauges and Warning Lamps Do Not Operate .

  1. Disconnect the Instrument Cluster.
  2. Connect an test lamp between Instrument Cluster connector Cavity 28 for the PNK (39) wire and ground.
  3. Place the Ignition Switch in the Run position.
  4. Observe the test lamp.
  5. Place the Ignition Switch in the Off position.

Does the test lamp light with the Ignition Switch in the Run position?

Go to Step 4

  1. Locate and repair the open in the PNK (39) wire between Splice S213 and the Instrument Cluster connector Cavity 28.
  2. Reconnect the Instrument Cluster.

Replace the Instrument Cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in SECTION 8C-4.
