Engine Cranks Slowly But Does Start

DEFINITION: The starter cranks well enough to start the engine. Once started, the engine operates well. However, it is not clear whether the starting problem is in the cranking system or in the engine.

Could a cold battery be the problem?

  1. Place the vehicle in a warm environment for two hours or more.
  2. Place the Ignition Switch in the Start position.
  3. Observe the engine's response.
  4. Place the Ignition Switch in the Off position.

Does the engine crank normally and start promptly?

It is more probable that the problem is in the cranking system?

Go to Starter Solenoid Clicks, Engine Does Not Crank .

Go to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check in Engine Controls -- 2.2L or to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check in Engine Controls -- 4.3L.
