Removal Procedure

    CAUTION: When you are performing service on or near the SRS components or the SRS wiring, you must disable the SRS system. Refer to Disabling the SRS System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SRS system repairs.

  1. Disable the SRS system. Refer to Disabling the SRS in SRS.
  2. Remove the inflator module. Refer to Supplemental Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SRS.

  3. Object Number: 399638  Size: SH
  4. Remove the horn plunger from the steering column by pressing inward to the stop and rotating the horn plunger 90 degrees.

  5. Object Number: 395771  Size: SH
  6. Remove the horn contact plate retaining screws from the steering wheel.
  7. Remove the horn plunger from the steering wheel.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the horn plunger to the steering wheel.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the horn contact plate retaining screws to the steering wheel.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the horn contact plate retaining screws to 5.5 N·m (50 ft in).

  5. Install the horn plunger to the steering column.
  6. Install the inflator module. Refer to Supplemental Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SRS.
  7. Enable the SRS system. Refer to Enabling the SRS in SRS.
