Air Conditioning Accumulator Replacement 2.2L

Tools Required

J 39400 Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the compressor suction hose assembly from the accumulator. Refer to Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement .
  3. Remove the accumulator to evaporator retaining nut.

  4. Object Number: 281184  Size: SH
  5. Remove the accumulator clamp bolt.
  6. Remove the A/C low pressure switch.

  7. Object Number: 281187  Size: SH
  8. Remove the accumulator from the accumulator clamp.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 281187  Size: SH
  1. Install the accumulator into the accumulator clamp.
  2. Install the A/C low pressure switch.

  3. Object Number: 281184  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the accumulator clamp bolt.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (88 lb in).

  6. Install the accumulator to evaporator retaining nut.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the retaining nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  8. Install the compressor suction hose assembly to the accumulator. Refer to Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement .
  9. Evacuate and recharge the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  10. Leak test the fitting(s) of the repaired or reinstalled components using the J 39400 .

Air Conditioning Accumulator Replacement 4.3L

J 39400 Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the electrical connectors from the pressure cycling switch.

  3. Object Number: 281193  Size: SH
  4. Remove the compressor hose assembly from the accumulator.
  5. Remove the accumulator to evaporator retaining nut.
  6. Remove the O-ring seals and discard.
  7. Remove the A/C low pressure switch.

  8. Object Number: 281187  Size: SH
  9. Remove the accumulator clamp bolt.
  10. Remove the accumulator.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the accumulator into the accumulator clamp.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   3. Install the accumulator clamp bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the accumulator clamp bolt to 10 N·m (8 lb ft)

  5. Install the A/C low pressure switch.

  6. Object Number: 281193  Size: SH
  7. Install new O-ring seals.
  8. Install the compressor suction hose assembly to the accumulator.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the compressor suction hose to 48 N·m (35 lb ft).

  10. Install the accumulator to evaporator retaining nut.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the retaining nut to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

  12. Connect the electrical connectors to the pressure cycling switch.
  13. Evacuate and recharge the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  14. Leak test the fitting(s) of the repaired or reinstalled components using the J 39400 .
