Power Steering Pump Replacement 3.1L

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 509732  Size: SH
  1. Remove the belt.
  2. Remove the nut from the bracket retaining hose on the alternator.
  3. Remove the engine mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  4. Remove the 3 pump bolts (2) for easier pump line removal.
  5. Remove the lines at the pump (3).
  6. Plug the open ends of the lines.
  7. Remove the transfer pulley (1), if necessary.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the transfer pulley (1), if removed.
  2. Remove the plugs from the lines.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the lines at the pump (3).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering gear inlet pipe to the pump to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  6. Install the 3 pump bolts (2).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the pump mounting bolts to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).

  8. Install the belt.
  9. Install the engine mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  10. Install the nut to the bracket retaining hose on the alternator.
  11. Fill the power steering pump reservoir with fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  12. Bleed the air from the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

Power Steering Pump Replacement 2.4L

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the variable effort steering electrical connector, if equipped.
  2. Disconnect the lines at the power steering pump.
  3. Plug the open ends of the lines.

  4. Object Number: 509780  Size: SH
  5. Remove the two power steering pump bolts.
  6. Remove the power steering pump.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power steering pump.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure.   3. Install the two power steering pump bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering pump bolts to 26 N·m (19 lb ft).

  5. Unplug the ends of the lines.
  6. Connect the lines at the power steering pump.
  7. Install the variable effort steering electrical connector, if equipped.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering gear inlet pipe to pump to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  9. Fill the power steering system with fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  10. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  11. Inspect the power steering system for leaks.
