Power Steering Pump Replacement 3.1L
Removal Procedure
- Remove the belt.
- Remove the nut from the bracket retaining hose on the alternator.
- Remove the engine mount. Refer to
Engine Mount Replacement
in Engine Mechanical.
- Remove the 3 pump bolts (2) for easier pump line
removal.
- Remove the lines at the pump (3).
- Plug the open ends of the lines.
- Remove the transfer pulley (1), if necessary.
Installation Procedure
- Install the transfer pulley (1),
if removed.
- Remove the plugs from the lines.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the lines
at the pump (3).
Tighten
Tighten the power steering gear inlet pipe to the pump to 27 N·m
(20 lb ft).
- Install the 3 pump bolts (2).
Tighten
Tighten the pump mounting bolts to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).
- Install the belt.
- Install the engine mount. Refer to
Engine Mount Replacement
in Engine Mechanical.
- Install the nut to the bracket retaining hose on the alternator.
- Fill the power steering pump reservoir with fluid. Refer to
Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid
.
- Bleed the air from the power steering system. Refer to
Power Steering System Bleeding
.
Power Steering Pump Replacement 2.4L
Removal Procedure
- Remove
the variable effort steering electrical connector, if equipped.
- Disconnect the lines at the power steering pump.
- Plug the open ends of the lines.
- Remove the two power steering pump bolts.
- Remove the power steering pump.
Installation Procedure
- Install the power steering pump.

- Install the two power steering pump
bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the power steering pump bolts to 26 N·m (19 lb ft).
- Unplug
the ends of the lines.
- Connect the lines at the power steering pump.
- Install the variable effort steering electrical connector, if
equipped.
Tighten
Tighten the power steering gear inlet pipe to pump to 27 N·m
(20 lb ft).
- Fill the power steering system with fluid. Refer to
Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid
.
- Bleed the power steering system. Refer to
Power Steering System Bleeding
.
- Inspect the power steering system for leaks.
