Did you perform the Lighting Systems Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  2. Place the transaxle in the REVERSE position.
  3. Backprobe the right IP wiring harness junction block connector C3 with a test lamp between terminal A4 (left lamp) or terminal C3 (right lamp) and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the inoperative rear lamp assembly connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp between terminal A (Pontiac) or terminal B (Olds) of the left rear lamp assembly connector or terminal E (Pontiac) or terminal B (Olds) of the right rear lamp assembly connector and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

Replace the right IP wiring harness junction block.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

Connect a test lamp between terminal C and terminal A (Pontiac) or terminal B (Olds) of the left rear lamp assembly connector or between terminal C and terminal E (Pontiac) or terminal B (Olds) of the right rear lamp assembly connector.

Does the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 7

Repair the open in the Back-up Lamp Feed circuit between the right IP wiring harness junction block and the left or right rear lamp assembly. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Replace the inoperative rear lamp assembly. Refer to Tail Lamp Assembly and /or Backup, Sidemarker, Stop, Turn Signal Bulb Replacement or.

System OK

Repair the open in the Ground circuit between the rear lamp assembly and ground splice pack G401 (Olds.) and G 402 (Pontiac). Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
