Rear Compartment Lid Replacement Oldsmobile
Removal Procedure
Notice: When removing body panels, apply tape to corners of panel and adjacent
surfaces to help prevent paint damage.
- Place a protective covering over the adjacent panels.
- Remove the high mounted stop lamp. Refer to
High Mount Stop Lamp Replacement
in Lighting Systems.
- Remove the rear compartment latch. Refer to
Rear Compartment Lid Latch Replacement
.
- Remove the rear compartment applique. Refer to
Rear Compartment Lid Applique Replacement
.
- Remove the rear compartment backup lamp assembly. Refer to
Backup Lamp Replacement
.
- Remove the rear compartment license plate lamp assembly.
- Remove the rear lid lock cylinder. Refer to
Rear Compartment Lid Lock Cylinder Replacement
.
- Remove the rear compartment lid spoiler, if equipped. Refer to
Rear Spoiler Replacement
in Lighting Systems.
- Remove the wiring harness
from the rear compartment lid.
- Remove the overslam bumper (1) from the rear compartment lid.
- With an assistant, remove the bolts which secure the lid to the
hinges.
- Remove the rear compartment lid, with an assistant.
Installation Procedure
- With an assistant, position the rear compartment lid to the vehicle.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the bolts that secure the rear compartment lid to the hinges.
Tighten
Tighten the rear compartment lid to hinge bolts to 10 N·m
(89 lb in).
- Use a length of wire to route the wire harness through the new
compartment lid.
- Pull the wire through the rear compartment lid until the harness
is positioned within the rear compartment lid.
- Install the overslam bumper
(1) onto the rear compartment lid.
- Install the rear lid lock cylinder. Refer to

- Install the rear lid backup lamp assembly. Refer to
Backup Lamp Replacement

- Install the rear compartment lid applique. Refer to
Rear Compartment Lid Applique Replacement
.
- Install the rear compartment latch. Refer to

- Install the high mounted stop lamp. Refer to

- Install the rear compartment license plate lamp assembly.
- Install the rear compartment lid spoiler. Refer to

Removal Procedure

- Remove the rear compartment applique. Refer to

- Remove the rear compartment backup lamp assembly. Refer to

- Remove the rear compartment license plate lamp assembly.
- Remove the rear compartment lid spoiler, if equipped. Refer to

- Remove the rear lid lock cylinder. Refer to
Rear Compartment Lid Lock Cylinder Replacement
.
- Remove the overslam bumper
from the rear compartment lid.
- Disconnect the rear compartment wire harness from the components
that are attached to the rear compartment lid.
- With an assistant, remove
the rear compartment lid to hinge bolts (2).
- Remove the rear compartment lid (1), with an assistant.
Installation Procedure
- With an assistant, position
the rear compartment lid (1) to the hinges.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or

Tighten
Tighten the rear compartment lid to hinge bolts to 10 N·m
(89 lb in).
- Adjust the rear compartment lid as necessary.
- Use a length of wire to route the wire harness through the new
compartment lid.
- Pull the wire through the rear compartment lid until the harness
is positioned within the rear compartment lid.
- Install the overslam bumper
(1) onto the rear compartment lid.
- Install the rear lid lock cylinder. Refer to

.
- Install the rear lid backup lamp assembly. Refer to

- Install the rear compartment lid applique. Refer to

- Install the rear compartment latch. Refer to
