There is excessive back pressure in the power steering hoses.

1. Inspect the power steering hoses for restrictions. Refer to Power Steering System Test .
2. Replace the power steering hoses as needed. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement or Power Steering Return Hose Replacement

There is excessive back pressure in the steering gear.

1. Inspect the steering gear for restrictions. Refer to Power Steering System Test .
2. Replace the steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .

The pressure plate is scored.

Replace the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement

The thrust plate is scored.

Replace the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement

The rotor is scored.

Replace the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement

The pump ring is worn.

Replace the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement
