Problem

Action

The steering column is not aligned correctly.

  1. Inspect the steering column alignment. Refer to Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection - Off Vehicle .
  2. Repair or replace the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .

The horn contact ring is not lubricated.

  1. Inspect the horn contact ring.
  2. Service the horn contact ring. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement and Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Assemble - Off Vehicle .

The intermediate steering shaft is worn or damaged.

  1. Inspect the intermediate steering shaft.
  2. Replace the intermediate steering shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .

The upper steering shaft is worn or damaged.

  1. Inspect for a worn or damaged steering shaft.
  2. Replace the steering shaft. Refer to Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle .

The steering wheel is worn or loose.

  1. Inspect the steering wheel
  2. Retorque or replace the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .

The steering column mounting bolts are loose.

Retorque the steering column mounting bolts. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications or Steering Column Replacement .
