Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the transmission from the vehicle. Refer to Transmission Replacement .
  2. Drain the transmission fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Replacement .
  3. Remove the clutch actuator cylinder. Refer to Clutch Actuator Cylinder Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 1604434  Size: SH
  5. Remove the input shaft bearing retainer bolts.
  6. Discard the bolts

  7. Remove the input shaft bearing retainer.
  8. Clean and inspect the input shaft bearing retainer. Refer to Transmission Case Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 881220  Size: SH
  1. Apply a 3 mm (1/8 in) bead of sealant GM P/N 89020326 (Canadian P/N 89021188) to the input shaft bearing retainer.

  2. Object Number: 1604434  Size: SH

    Important: Ensure the seal does not catch on the input shaft splines.

  3. Position the input shaft bearing retainer to the transmission.
  4. Apply pipe sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) to the threads of the input shaft bearing retainer bolts if new bolts are not available.
  5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  6. Install the NEW input shaft bearing retainer bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the input shaft bearing retainer bolts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  8. Install the clutch actuator cylinder. Refer to Clutch Actuator Cylinder Replacement .
  9. Install the transmission to the vehicle. Refer to Transmission Replacement .
  10. Fill the transmission fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Replacement .
