Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1578292 Size: SH
  1. Remove the hood. Refer to Hood Replacement.
  2. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement.
  3. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement.
  4. Remove the engine front cover bolts.

    5. Object Number: 1578293 Size: SH
  5. Remove the engine front cover to water pump bolt.

    6. Object Number: 1578294 Size: SH
  6. Remove and discard the engine front cover gasket.
  7. Remove the crankshaft front cover oil seal with an appropriate tool.
  8. Remove and discard the friction washer.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1578294 Size: SH
  1. Install a NEW crankshaft front oil seal. Refer to Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Replacement.
  2. Install a NEW friction washer.
  3. Position and install a NEW engine front cover gasket to the dowel pins.

    4. Object Number: 1578293 Size: SH
  4. Position and install the engine front cover.

    5. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  5. Install the engine front cover to water pump bolt and tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    6. Object Number: 1578292 Size: SH
  6. Install the engine front cover bolts and tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
  7. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement.
  8. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement.
  9. Install the hood. Refer to Hood Replacement.
