Component Name

Warning: Gasoline or gasoline vapors are highly flammable. A fire could occur if an ignition source is present. Never drain or store gasoline or diesel fuel in an open container, due to the possibility of fire or explosion. Have a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby.

Caution: Refer to Fuel Sender Handling Caution in the Preface section.

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement .
  3. Release the electrical connector.

Tip
The illustrations in this section show the fuel sender on the primary fuel pump only. The fuel sender on the secondary fuel pump is similar.

Fuel Pump Feed and Return Pipe

Procedure

Release the fuel pump feed and return pipes and move to one side.

Fuel Pump Retaining Ring

Procedure

  1. Release the fuel pump retaining ring.
  2. Lift out the retaining ring to access the fuel pump.

Fuel Pump

Caution: Do not run the fuel pump unless the fuel pump is submerged in fuel in order to prevent damage to the fuel pump.
