Component Name

Warning: To prevent personal injury and/or component damage, use the proper tools to support and compress the coil spring prior to removal of the strut shaft nut when removing the coil spring. The coil spring is under extreme pressure and can become a projectile should the spring separate from the strut before all of the tension is relieved.

Preliminary Procedure

  1. Remove the strut assembly. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement
  2. Clamp strut assembly (9) in CH-6066 holding device attached to a work bench.
  3. Compress the spring to remove the spring tension from the upper strut mount, CH-6068 spring tensioning device
  4. Caution: Care should be taken to avoid chipping or cracking the spring coating when handling the front suspension coil spring. Failure to observe this notice may result in spring breakage.

  5. Inspect parts for damage and replace as necessary.

Strut Shaft Fastener

Warning: To prevent personal injury and/or component damage, use the proper tools to support the lower control arm when removing the coil spring. The coil spring is under extreme pressure and can become a projectile should the spring separate from the lower control arm before all of the tension is relieved.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tip
Before removing the strut shaft nut, support the strut to prevent the strut from falling.

Tighten
50 N·m(37 lb ft)
