Transmission Replacement All Wheel Drive

Preliminary Procedure

  1. Remove the left drive shafts. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Seal Replacement - Left Side.
  2. Remove the transfer case assembly. Refer to LINK.
  3. Remove the sub frame. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Front Crossmember Replacement.
  4. Remove the coolant pipe from the thermostat housing and keep it away with a strap. Refer to Engine Coolant Thermostat Replacement.
  5. Remove the clutch actuator cylinder hose. Refer to LINK.
  6. Remove the shift lever cable. Refer to LINK.
  7. Remove the catalytic converter heatshields. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement.

Transmission Fasteners (Qty: 9)

Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution in the Preface section.

Procedure

  1. Support the engine support with EN-47649 Engine Bridge and EN-47650 Retainer Frame
  2. Remove the left engine support to transmission fasteners. Refer to LINK.
  3. Disconnect the backlight switch cable.

Tighten

    • M10: 40 N·m (30 lb ft)
    • M12: 60 N·m (44 lb ft)

Special Tools

    • EN-47649 Engine Bridge
    • EN-47650 Retainer Frame

Transmission Dowel (Qty: 2)

Procedure

  1. Secure the transmission with DT-46648 holder for Single-column lift on to a column jack. Use bolts that are about 20 mm longer than the bolts that were removed.

Transmission Replacement Front Wheel Drive

Preliminary Procedure

  1. Drain the transmission from fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Replacement
  2. Remove the drive shafts. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Left Side and Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Right Side.
  3. Remove the intermediate shaft. Refer to Intermediate Shaft Replacement.
  4. .

  5. Remove the sub frame. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Front Crossmember Replacement.
  6. Remove the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement.
  7. Remove the clutch actuator cylinder hose. Refer to LINK.
  8. Remove the shift lever cable. Refer to LINK
  9. Remove the particulate filter. Refer to Exhaust Particulate Filter Replacement.
  10. Remove the left engine support to transmission fasteners. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement - Left Side.

Transmission Fasteners

Procedure

Support the engine support with EN-47649 Engine Bridge and EN-47650 Retainer Frame

Tighten

    • M10 to 40 N·m (30 lb ft)
    • M12 to 60 N·m (44 lb ft)
