Did you review the ALC System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Disconnect the air tube from the air dryer.
  2. Connect the J 22124-B and adapter to the air dryer with the toggle valve on the opposite side as the air dryer.
  3. Close the toggle valve.
  4. Apply service air pressure to J 22124-B service valve until the gage reads 550 kPa (80 psi).
  5. Monitor the J 22124-B gage pressure for 1 minute.

Does the system maintain pressure?

System OK

Go to Step 3

  1. Apply service air to the J 22124-B service valve until the gage reads 550 kPa (80 psi).
  2. Inspect the following items for air leakage using soapy water:
  3. • The air dryer to compressor head O-ring
    • The air dryer

Did you find a leak?

Go to Step 6

  1. Apply service air to the J 22124-B service valve until the gage reads 550 kPa (80 psi).
  2. Inspect the following items for air leakage using soapy water:
  3. • The exhaust solenoid valve
    • The air compressor head gasket
    • The air compressor head cover gasket

Did you find a leak?

Go to Step 5

  1. Tighten the air compressor head bolts.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  3. Apply service air to the J 22124-B service valve until the gage reads 550 kPa (80 psi).
  4. Inspect the following items for air leakage using soapy water:
  5. • The exhaust solenoid valve
    • The air compressor head gasket
    • The air compressor head cover gasket

Did you correct the condition?

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 7

Replace the automatic level control air dryer. Refer to Automatic Level Control Air Dryer Replacement .
