1. Remove the fuel feed pipe. Refer to Fuel Hose/Pipes Replacement - Engine Compartment in Engine Controls - 5.7 L.
2. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve pipe from the rocker cover.



3. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the ignition coils.

•	Twist the spark plug wire boot 1/2 turn.

•	Pull only on the boot in order to remove the wire from the ignition coil.




4. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) clip (1).
5. Disconnect the ignition coil wire harness main electrical connector (2).



6. Remove the secondary air injection (AIR) pump hose from the AIR shut off valve.

Separate the AIR pump hose, if necessary.




7. Remove the AIR switch valve bracket nut.



8. Remove the AIR shut off valve vacuum harness from the shut off valve.



9. Loosen the AIR switch valve bracket bolt on the rear of the cylinder head.

Slide the AIR switch valve bracket off of the bolt.




10. Remove the AIR shut off valve hose clamps and hose.



11. Remove the AIR pipe bolts.
12. Remove the AIR pipe (with check valve) and gasket from the left exhaust manifold.



13. Remove the ignition coil bracket studs from the rocker arm cover.
14. Remove the ignition coil bracket from the rocker arm cover.



15. Remove the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
16. Remove the valve rocker arm cover.



17. Remove the gasket (1) from the rocker cover.
18. Discard the OLD gasket.
19. Clean and inspect the rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Cleaning and Inspection in Engine Mechanical - 5.7 L Unit Repair.

Important: 

1. Install a NEW rocker cover gasket (1) into the valve rocker cover lip.



2. Install the valve rocker arm cover onto the cylinder head.
3. Install NEW rocker arm cover bolt grommets, if necessary.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

4. Install the rocker arm cover bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).




5. Apply threadlock GM P/N 12345382, (Canadian P/N 10953489), or equivalent to the threads of the bracket studs.
6. Install the ignition coil bracket to the rocker arm cover.
7. Install the ignition coil bracket studs to the rocker arm cover.

Tighten
Tighten the ignition coil bracket studs to 12 N·m (106 lb in).




8. Install a NEW AIR pipe gasket to the left exhaust manifold.
9. Install the AIR pipe (with check valve), and bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the AIR pipe bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).




10. Install the AIR shut off valve hose and clamps.



11. Slide the AIR switch valve bracket behind the bolt.
12. Tighten the AIR switch valve bracket bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the AIR switch valve bracket bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).




13. Install the AIR switch valve bracket nut.

Tighten
Tighten the AIR switch valve bracket nut to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

14. Connect the AIR solenoid tube to the shut off valve.



15. Install the AIR shut off valve vacuum harness to the shut off valve.



16. Connect the AIR pump hose to the AIR shut off valve.

Connect the AIR pump hoses together, if necessary.




17. Connect the ignition coil wire harness main electrical connector (2).
18. Install the CPA clip (1).



19. Install the spark plug wires to the ignitions coils.



20. Install the PCV valve pipe to the left rocker cover.
21. Install the fuel feed pipe. Refer to Fuel Hose/Pipes Replacement - Engine Compartment in Engine Controls - 5.7 L.
