J 36660-A Torque Angle Meter

1. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
2. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
3. Remove the right exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right Side in Engine Exhaust.
4. Remove the valve rocker arms and the pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .



5. Remove and discard the cylinder head bolts (1).
6. Remove the right cylinder head (3).



7. Remove the right cylinder head gasket (3).
8. Disassemble the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Disassemble in Engine Mechanical-3.8L Unit Repair.

1. Assemble the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Disassemble in Engine Mechanical-3.8L Unit Repair.

Important: The arrow on the gasket must point to the front of the engine. Failure to install the gasket properly will cause gasket failure and possible engine damage.




2. Install the new right cylinder head gasket (3) to the alignment pins (2).



3. Install the right cylinder head (3).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.





Important: Do not reuse the cylinder head bolts. Install NEW cylinder head bolts during assembly.

4. Tighten the new cylinder head bolts following the given sequence.

Tighten
Tighten the cylinder head bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft) in sequence shown. Use the J 36660-A to torque the cylinder head bolts an additional 120 degrees.

5. Install the pushrods and the valve rocker arms. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement
6. Install the right exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right Side in Engine Exhaust.
7. Install the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
8. Refill the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
9. Change the engine oil and filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
