J 41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture


    Object Number: 322951  Size: SH

    Important: If installing the existing inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil it must be centered first. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Coil Centering - Off Vehicle .

    A new inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil is already centered. Do not remove the orange tab from the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil until installation is complete

  1. Feed the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connectors through the steering column.
  2. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil (4) following these steps:
  3. 2.1. Position the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil (4) to the steering shaft assembly (2).
    2.2. Align the opening in the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil (4) with the horn tower (1).
    2.3. Seat the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil (4) onto the steering shaft assembly (2).
  4. Remove and dispose of the orange tab if using a new inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil.
  5. Install the retaining ring (3) to the steering shaft assembly (2).

    Caution: Improper routing of the wire harness assembly may damage the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. This may result in a malfunction of the coil, which may cause personal injury.

    Important: Pull carefully on all the wires to remove any wire kinks that may be inside the steering column assembly.

  7. Install the wiring protector and the wire harness straps to the steering column.
  8. Connect the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector at the base of the column.

  10. Install the small wire harness straps.
  11. Install the wire harness assembly strap (1).
  12. Remove the steering column and J 41352 from the vise.
  13. Install the steering column into the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  14. Install the steering wheel onto the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  15. Enable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
