J 41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture


    Object Number: 343711  Size: SH

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the steering wheel from the column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  3. Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  4. Set the steering column and J 41352 into a vise.
  5. Align the block tooth on the race and upper shaft assembly to the 12 o'clock position.
  6. Place the ignition switch in the LOCK position to center the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil.
  7. Remove only those components necessary to do the repairs.

  8. Check the steering column for any accident damage. Refer to Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection - Off Vehicle .
  9. Remove the wire harness assembly strap (1).

  10. Object Number: 343702  Size: SH
  11. Remove the retaining ring from the steering shaft assembly.

  12. Object Number: 343717  Size: SH
  13. Remove the wire harness straps and the wire protector from the steering column.
  14. Disconnect the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector at the base of the steering column, if needed.
  15. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil from the steering shaft assembly.
  16. Attach mechanics wire to the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connectors for reassembly.
  17. Pull the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connectors through the steering column, if necessary.
