Did you review the Exterior Lighting System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.
  2. Turn the headlamp switch to the ON position.
  3. Place the headlamp dimmer switch in the LOW BEAM position.

Do the low beam headlamps illuminate?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Are both low beam headlamps inoperative?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

Place the headlamp dimmer switch in the HIGH BEAM position.

Do the high beam headlamps illuminate?

Go to Step 7

Go to Low and High Beams Headlamps Inoperative

  1. Disconnect the inoperative low beam headlamp connector.
  2. Probe the supply voltage circuit of the inoperative low beam headlamp connector with a test lamp that is connected to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

Probe the ground circuit of the inoperative low beam headlamp connector with a test lamp that is connected to battery voltage.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

  1. Disconnect the headlamp dimmer switch connector.
  2. Connect a fused jumper between the low beam supply voltage circuit of the headlamp dimmer switch and battery positive voltage.

Does the low beam headlamp illuminate?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the inoperative headlamp. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair an open or high resistance in the supply voltage circuit of the low beam lamps. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Disconnect the inoperative low beam headlamp.
  2. Probe the supply voltage circuit of the inoperative low beam headlamp with a test lamp that is connected to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Probe between the ground circuit and the supply voltage circuit of the inoperative low beam headlamp with a test lamp.

Does the test lamp illuminate?
