Verify the malfunction with a known-good disc.

Is the CD player skipping or muting?

Determine if the driver's usual route is over rough or dirt roads. If so, the condition may be normal. Attempt to duplicate the condition with a known-good disc on a smooth road surface.

Does the CD player continue to skip or mute?

  1. Test the CD player with a known good disc. The ERR message appears under the following conditions:
  2. • The disc is inserted upside down.
    • The disc is dirty.
    • The disc is badly scratched.
    • The disc is wet.
    • Moisture has condensed on the disc. This will occur when a cold disc is inserted into a hot player, or vice versa. Allow up to 1 hour in order for the condensation to evaporate.
  3. Very high internal instrument panel temperatures may cause the disc to eject.

Does the CD player continue to display ERR?
