Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 383961  Size: MH

    Notice: When removing body panels, apply tape to corners of panel and adjacent surfaces to help prevent paint damage.

  1. Raise the hood (6).
  2. Install protective covering over the fenders in order to prevent damage to the paint.
  3. Disconnect the engine compartment lamp.
  4. Mark the position of the hinge (3) on the hood (6) using a grease pencil.
  5. For Oldsmobiles and Buicks only, disconnect the hood open assist rods. Refer to Hood Hold-Open Rod Replacement .
  6. Disconnect the upper hinge to hood bolts (1).
  7. Remove the hood assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the hood assembly.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the upper hinge to hood bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  5. For Oldsmobiles and Buicks only, install the hood open assist rods . Refer to Hood Hold-Open Rod Replacement .
  6. Connect the engine compartment lamp.
  7. Align the hood. Refer to Hood Adjustment .
