Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 296671 Size: SH
  1. Rotate the steering wheel ½ turn to the left in order to center the steering wheel.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the screws to the back of the steering wheel inflator module using a TORX® driver.
  4. Tighten
Tighten the screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

Use hand tools only to achieve fastener torque. This will prevent stripping of the replacement fastener.

  5. Rotate the horn contact lead clockwise ¼ turn in order to install the horn contact lead to the steering column shaft tower.
  6. Connect the horn ground lead to the steering wheel.
  7. Connect the electrical connector to the back of the steering wheel inflator module.
