Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement Left Front

1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
2. Remove the left (front) spark plug wires. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.
3. Remove the automatic transaxle vacuum modulator pipe. Refer to Vacuum Modulator Pipe Replacement in Automatic Transmission/Transaxle.
4. Remove the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve from the left (front) valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Engine Controls.



5. Remove the left (front) valve rocker arm cover bolts.
6. Remove the left (front) valve rocker arm cover.
7. Remove the left (front) valve rocker arm cover gasket.
8. Clean the valve rocker arm cover.
9. Clean the valve rocker arm cover gasket sealing surfaces on the cylinder head and the lower intake manifold.

1. Install a new left (front) valve rocker arm cover gasket.




Important: Apply sealant GM P/N 12345739 or equivalent at the cylinder head to lower intake manifold joint.

2. Apply sealant at the cylinder head to lower intake manifold joint at the rear of the lower intake manifold (1).




Important: Apply sealant GM P/N 12345739 or equivalent at the cylinder head to lower intake manifold joint.

3. Apply sealant at the cylinder head to lower intake manifold joint at the front of the lower intake manifold (1).




Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

4. Install the left (front) valve rocker arm cover.

Hand tighten the left (front) valve rocker arm cover bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

5. Install the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve to the left (front) valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Engine Controls.
6. Connect the automatic transaxle vacuum modulator pipe. Refer to Vacuum Modulator Pipe Replacement in Automatic Transmission/Transaxle.
7. Install the left (front) spark plug wires. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.
8. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.

Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement Right Rear

1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
3. Remove the generator braces. Refer to Generator Brace Replacement and Generator Brace Replacement in Engine Electrical.
4. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.
5. Remove the right (rear) spark plug wires. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.
6. Remove the ignition coil bracket with the coils, the purge solenoid and the vacuum canister solenoid. Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement in Engine Controls.
7. Remove the crankcase ventilation hose from the grommet in the right (rear) valve rocker arm cover.



8. Remove the right (rear) valve rocker arm cover bolts.
9. Remove the right (rear) valve rocker arm cover.
10. Remove the right (rear) valve rocker arm cover gasket.
11. Clean the valve rocker arm cover.
12. Clean the valve rocker arm cover gasket sealing surfaces on the cylinder head and the lower intake manifold.

1. Install a new right (rear) valve rocker arm cover gasket.




Important: Apply sealant GM P/N 12345739 or equivalent at the cylinder head to lower intake manifold joint.

2. Apply sealant at the cylinder head to lower intake manifold joint at the rear of the lower intake manifold (1).

3. Apply sealant at the cylinder head to lower intake manifold joint at the front of the lower intake manifold (1).

4. Install the right (rear) valve rocker arm cover.

Hand tighten the right (rear) valve rocker arm cover bolts.

Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

5. Install the crankcase ventilation hose to the grommet in the right (rear) valve rocker arm cover.
6. Install the ignition bracket with coils, the purge solenoid and the vacuum canister solenoid. Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement in Engine Controls.
7. Install the right (rear) spark plug wires. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.
8. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement in Engine Electrical.
9. Install the generator braces. Refer to Generator Brace Replacement and Generator Brace Replacement in Engine Electrical.
10. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
11. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
