Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool


    Object Number: 177084  Size: SH
  1. Remove the left side instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  2. Remove the left side carpet retainers. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector at the parking brake indicator switch (1).
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  5. Loosen the parking brake cable and equalizer.
  6. Lower the vehicle.

  8. Remove the mounting nuts from the parking brake lever.
  9. Remove the parking brake lever with the parking brake cable.

  10. Object Number: 177096  Size: SH
  11. Remove the cable button end from the lever clevis.
  12. Remove the cable from the lever using the J 37043 .
  13. Remove the parking brake indicator switch. Refer to Parking Brake Indicator Switch Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the parking brake indicator switch. Refer to Parking Brake Indicator Switch Replacement in this section.
  2. Install the parking brake cable to the new parking brake lever.
  3. Install the cable end onto the lever clevis.

  4. Object Number: 177091  Size: SH
  5. Install the parking brake lever.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the parking brake lever mounting bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the parking brake lever mounting nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  10. Loosen the parking brake cable and equalizer.
  11. Lower the vehicle.

  13. Connect the electrical connector at the parking brake indicator switch (1).
  14. Adjust the parking brake. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment .
  15. Install the left side carpet retainers. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  16. Install the left side instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  17. Lower the vehicle.
