Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  3. Remove the brake modulator bracket. Refer to Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Bracket Replacement in Antilock Brake System.
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  5. Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.
  6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the A/C refrigerant pressure sensor.
  7. Remove the liquid line/suction line bracket.

  9. Remove the liquid line nut at the condenser.

  10. Object Number: 284638  Size: SH
  11. Remove the liquid line nut at the orifice.
  12. Disconnect the transmissition shift cable retainer from the strut tower and position aside the transmission shift cable.
  13. Important: Use care when removing the tube.

  14. Remove the liquid line.
  15. Remove and discard the O-rings.

Installation Procedure

    Important: The new O-ring seals must be lubricated with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

  1. Install new O-ring seals onto the liquid line. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  2. Install the liquid line into place.

  3. Object Number: 284638  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the liquid line nut at the orifice.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the liquid line nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  8. Install the liquid line nut at the condenser.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the liquid line nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  10. Install the liquid line/suction line bracket.
  11. Connect the electrical connector to the A/C refrigerant pressure sensor.
  12. Install the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Route the transmission shift cable into position and connect the transmission shift cable retainer at the strut tower.
  15. Install the brake modulator bracket. Refer to Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Bracket Replacement in Antilock Brake System.
  16. Evacuate and charge the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  17. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Leak Testing .
  18. Install the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
