Removal Procedure

Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

   • Air bag deployment
   • Personal injury
   • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
   • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
   • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the left instrument panel (IP) insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
  3. Remove the steering column opening filler. Refer to Steering Column Opening Filler Replacement .
  4. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  5. Lower the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering.

  6. Object Number: 311657  Size: SH
  7. Grasp both sides of the bottom edge of the IP trim plate and pull out in order to release the retainer clips.
  8. Disconnect the electrical connector from the fog lamp switch.
  9. Remove the instrument cluster trim plate from the IP.

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the electrical connector to the fog lamp switch.

  2. Object Number: 311657  Size: SH
  3. Align the instrument panel (IP) cluster trim plate locating pins and retainer clips with the slots in the IP.
  4. Push in the IP cluster trim plate at each of the retainer clip locations in order to lock in the trim plate.
  5. Raise the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering.
  6. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  7. Install the steering column opening filler. Refer to Steering Column Opening Filler Replacement .
  8. Install the left IP insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
  9. Connect the battery ground negative cable . Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
