Makes 🢒 Pontiac 🢒 1999 🢒 Grand Prix 🢒 Body and Accessories 🢒 Body Rear End 🢒 Rear Compartment Lid Replacement

Removal Procedure
  1. Open the rear compartment.
  2. Place the protective coverings over the adjacent body panels.
  3. Use a grease pencil in order to mark the hinge to the rear compartment lid for the location at installation.

    4. Object Number: 318868 Size: SH
  4. Disconnect all electrical connectors on the rear compartment lid from the harness.
  5. Remove the black rubber height adjustment bumpers.
  6. Remove the lid latch. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Replacement .
  7. Remove the spoiler, if equipped. Refer to Rear Spoiler Replacement .

  8. With an assistant, remove the nuts from the rear compartment hinges.
  9. With an assistant, remove the rear compartment lid.

Installation Procedure
  1. Install the black rubber height adjustment bumpers.

    2. Object Number: 318869 Size: SH
  2. With an assistant, position the new rear compartment lid to the hinges.
  3. Position the hinge to the alignment marks on the rear compartment lid.
  4. Install the nuts to the rear compartment hinges.

    5. Do not torque the nuts until after the lid has been aligned.

    Important: When installing new a compartment lid, use mechanics wire to pull the wire harness into position.

  5. Pull the harness through the rear compartment lid.

  6. Connect the electrical connectors to the electrical components on the rear compartment lid.
  7. Install the latch. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Replacement .
  8. Install the spoiler, if equipped. Refer to Rear Spoiler Replacement .
  9. Remove the protective coverings.
  10. Adjust the rear compartment lid if required. Using an Allen wrench, adjust the height adjustment bumper at front of the hinge.
  11. Adjust the rear compartment lid if required, for uniform fit.

  12. Adjust the rear compartment height by turning the black rubber overslam bumpers by hand.

    13. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  13. Tighten the nuts to the rear compartment hinges.

    14. Tighten
    Tighten the real compartment lid hinge nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  14. Close the rear compartment.
