Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement 3.1L

Tools Required

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.

  3. Object Number: 369008  Size: SH
  4. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut (1) from the condenser.
  5. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the condenser.

  6. Object Number: 369028  Size: SH
  7. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut (2) from the accumulator.
  8. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the accumulator.
  9. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  10. Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  11. Object Number: 369041  Size: SH
  12. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut from the A/C compressor.
  13. Important: Remove and discard all the used O-ring and the sealing washers.

  14. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the A/C compressor.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the new sealing washers onto the A/C compressor hose assembly. Refer to Compressor Sealing Washers Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 369044  Size: SH
  3. Install the A/C compressor hose to the A/C compressor.

  4. Object Number: 369041  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the A/C compressor hose nut.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).

  7. Install the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Important: Lubricate the new O-ring seals with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

  10. Install the new O-ring seal to the A/C compressor hose assembly. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  11. Install the A/C compressor hose to the accumulator.

  12. Object Number: 369028  Size: SH
  13. Install the A/C compressor hose nut (2) to the accumulator.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb  ft).

  15. Install the A/C compressor hose to the condenser.
  16. Install the A/C compressor hose nut to the condenser.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  18. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  19. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  20. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A .

Tools Required

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.

  3. Object Number: 369008  Size: SH
  4. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut (1) from the condenser.
  5. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the condenser.

  6. Object Number: 369032  Size: SH
  7. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut (2) from the accumulator.
  8. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the accumulator.
  9. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  10. Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  12. Remove the A/C hose nut from the A/C compressor.
  13. Important: Remove and discard all of the used O-ring and sealing washers.

  14. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the A/C compressor.

  3. Install the A/C compressor hose to the A/C compressor.

  15. Install the A/C compressor hose to the condenser.
  16. Install the A/C compressor hose nut to the condenser.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 16  N·m (12 lb  ft).

  18. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  19. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  20. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A .
