Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  3. Remove the turn signal switch and the wiper switch. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement .
  4. Remove the ignition lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement .
  5. Place match marks on the intermediate shaft and the steering column shaft.

  7. Remove the intermediate shaft upper pinch bolt (1).

  8. Object Number: 1631465  Size: SH
  9. Remove the steering column lower nuts (1, 2).

  10. Object Number: 1631487  Size: SH
  11. Remove the steering column upper nuts (1) and washers.
  12. Remove the steering column.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the steering column in the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1631487  Size: SH

    Important: Align the match-mark on the intermediate shaft and the steering column shaft.

  3. Install the steering column upper nuts (1) and washers.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the upper nuts to 17.5 N·m (12.91 lb ft).

  5. Install the steering column lower nuts (1, 2).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the lower nuts to 17.5 N·m (12.91 lb ft).

  7. Install the intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt (1).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the pinch bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Install the lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement .
  10. Install the turn signal switch and the wiper switch. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement .
  11. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  12. Enable the SIR system, if equipped. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
