Schematic Reference: Video System Schematics

DEFINITION: While playing the rear video system with an auxiliary input video source, the picture is poor, garbled or blank, but the screen backlighting is OK. Operation of the rear video system, playing a video with the VCP, is normal.

  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Turn on the wireless headphones.
  3. Test the operation of the radio and rear seat audio (RSA) module with the rear video system off.
  4. Turn off the radio and the RSA module.
  5. Turn on power to the video cassette player (VCP) and the video display.
  6. Insert a pre-recorded VHS tape in the VCP and press the PLAY button on the VCP. The video display plays video from the VCP. Video audio plays through the overhead speakers, liftgate speakers and the wireless headphones (both channels).
  7. Stop the VCP.
  8. Connect an auxiliary video source to the auxiliary RCA video jacks.
  9. Turn on the auxiliary video source, and press AUX on the VCP remote control. The video display plays auxiliary video. Auxiliary video audio plays through the overhead speakers, liftgate speakers and the wireless headphones (both channels).

Does the system operate normally?

Test the auxiliary video signal (+) circuit for the following conditions:

    • An open
    • A short to ground
    • A short to voltage

Test the auxiliary video signal (-) circuit for the following conditions:

    • An open
    • A short to ground
    • A short to voltage

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connectors C1 and C3 of the auxiliary module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector C1 of the video display. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the auxiliary module. Refer to Audio/Video Interface Module Replacement .
