DEFINITION: Noise occurs in 3rd speed gear only

1. Disassemble the transaxle case. Refer to Transmission Case Disassemble .
2. Check the following components for wear or damage.

•	The 3rd speed constant-mesh gears

•	The 3rd/4th synchronizer

Are any of the components worn, chipped, or scored?

Go to Step 2

Refer to Isolating Noise .

Service, repair, or replace the components as necessary. Refer to Transmission Case Assemble

Did the noise disappear?

System OK
