Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement 2.2L
Removal Procedure
Important: When replacing a failed compressor it will be necessary to inspect the
expansion (orifice) tube for material build up. Clean or replace the expansion
tube as necessary. Refer to
Expansion (Orifice) Tube Replacement
.
- Recover the A/C system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Remove the drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical-2.2L.
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the right front fender liner. Refer to
Front Fender Liner Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Disconnect the compressor clutch electrical connector.
- Remove the compressor
hose assembly from the compressor. Refer to
Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement
.
- Remove the compressor bolts (2,4).
- Remove the compressor (3).
Installation Procedure
Important: When servicing or replacing the compressor, drain and measure the oil
from the compressor.
- Drain and measure the oil in the removed compressor, if replacing the
compressor.
- Refill the new compressor with the proper amount of NEW oil. Refer
to
Refrigerant Oil Distribution
.
- Install the compressor (3)
to the compressor mounting bracket (1).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the compressor
mounting bolts (4,2).
Tighten
- Tighten the front compressor mounting bolts (4) to 45 N·m
(33 lb ft).
- Tighten the rear compressor mounting bolt (2) to 65 N·m
(48 lb ft).
- Install the compressor hose assembly to the compressor. Refer
to
Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement
.
- Connect the clutch electrical connector.
- Install the right front fender liner. Refer to
Front Fender Liner Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical-2.2L.
- Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Perform a leak test. Refer to
Leak Testing
.
- Test the system operation.
