Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement Chevrolet

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 288280  Size: SH
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the defroster grille screw.
  3. With a flat-bladed tool remove the defroster grille from the instrument panel (IP) trim pad.
  4. Remove the IP outer trim cover screws.
  5. Remove the IP outer trim covers.
  6. Open the IP compartment.
  7. Remove the right IP trim plate bezel. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  8. Remove the IP trim pad screws (1).
  9. Remove the IP trim pad (2) from the IP carrier.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the IP trim pad (2) to the IP carrier.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the IP trim pad screws (1).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  5. Install the right IP trim plate bezel. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  6. Close IP compartment door.
  7. Install the IP outer trim covers.
  8. Install the IP outer trim cover screws.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  10. Install the defroster grille to the instrument panel (IP) trim pad.
  11. Install the defroster grille screw.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  13. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.

Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement Pontiac

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 288285  Size: SH
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. With a flat-bladed tool remove the defroster grille from the instrument panel (IP) trim pad.
  3. Remove the IP upper trim panel (4) by lifting upward to release the retainers.
  4. Remove the IP outer trim cover screws.
  5. Remove the IP outer trim covers.
  6. Remove the IP accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  7. Remove the right IP trim panel screws (1).
  8. Remove the right IP trim panel (3).
  9. Remove the screws (1) attaching the IP trim pad (2).
  10. Remove the IP trim pad (2) from the IP carrier.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the IP trim pad (2) to the IP carrier.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure.   3. Install the screws (1) attaching the IP trim pad (2) to the IP carrier.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  5. Install the right IP trim panel (3).
  6. Install the screws to the right IP trim panel (1).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  8. Install the IP accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  9. Install the IP outer trim covers.
  10. Install IP outer trim cover screws.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  12. Install the IP upper trim panel (4) by pushing downward until retainer are fully seated.
  13. Install the defroster grille to the IP carrier. Refer to
  14. Press the defroster grille into the IP carrier until retaining tabs are secured.

  15. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
