CH-48023 Wheel Bearing Remover and Installer

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the steering knuckle from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Knuckle Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 899520  Size: SH
  3. Use snap ring pliers in order to remove the wheel bearing retainer (1).
  4. Place the outboard side of the knuckle assembly on a press split plate.
  5. Place a bearing driver collar on the inboard end of the hub (6).
  6. Use a press in order to remove the hub from the wheel bearing (11).
  7. Press from the inboard side of the hub toward the outboard side of the hub.

  8. Remove the 3 bolts (4,5,7) and the brake shield (3) from the knuckle.

  9. Object Number: 1648364  Size: SH
  10. From the CH-48023 kit, place the CH-48023-2 (2) on a press support plate.
  11. Place the inboard side of the knuckle on the CH-48023-2.
  12. Place the CH-48023-1 (1) on the outside outer race of the bearing.
  13. Use a press in order to remove the bearing from the knuckle.
  14. Press from the outboard side of the bearing toward the inboard side of the knuckle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1648384  Size: SH
  1. Place the outboard side of the knuckle on a press support plate.
  2. Place the wheel bearing (2) on the inboard side of the knuckle.
  3. Place the CH-48023-1 (1) on the bearing.
  4. Use a press in order to install the bearing into the knuckle.
  5. Press from the inboard side of the bearing toward the outboard side of the knuckle.

  6. Install the brake shield (3) to the knuckle (2).
  7. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  8. Install the 3 bolts (4,5,7) that retain the brake shield to the knuckle.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 8.3 N·m (73.46 lb in).

  10. Place the CH-48023-2 (3) on a press support plate.
  11. Place the hub (2) on the CH-48023-2.
  12. Place the knuckle and bearing assembly on the hub.
  13. Place the CH-48023-1 (1) on the bearing.
  14. Use a press in order to install the hub to the bearing.
  15. Press from the inboard side of the bearing toward the outboard side of the hub.

  16. Use snap ring pliers in order to install the wheel bearing retainer.
  17. Install the steering knuckle to the vehicle. Refer to Steering Knuckle Replacement .
