Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
  2. Release the fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief.
  3. Remove the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement.
  4. Remove the timing belt tensioner. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement.

  5. Object Number: 2049388  Size: SH
  6. Remove the camshaft. Refer to Camshaft Replacement.
  7. Remove the timing belt rear cover (1).
  8. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement.
  9. Remove the exhaust manifold. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement.

  10. Object Number: 2049555  Size: SH
  11. Remove the coolant distributor (1).

  12. Object Number: 2049556  Size: SH
  13. Remove the cylinder head bolts (1).
  14. Remove the cylinder head (2) with the gasket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 2049556  Size: SH
  1. Install the cylinder head (2) with the new gasket.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install the cylinder head bolts (1) and tighten to 25 N·m +90° +90° +90° +45° (18.4 lb ft +90° +90° +90° +45° ).

  4. Object Number: 2049555  Size: SH
  5. Install the coolant distributor (1).
  6. Install the exhaust manifold. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement.
  7. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement.

  8. Object Number: 2049388  Size: SH
  9. Install the timing belt rear cover (1) and tighten to 6 N·m (53.1 lb in).
  10. Install the camshaft. Refer to Camshaft Replacement.
  11. Adjust the belt timing. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement.
