Makes 🢒 Saturn 🢒 2009 🢒 Astra 🢒 Steering 🢒 Steering Wheel and Column 🢒 Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement

Removal Procedure

    Note: 

       • Disregard for vehicles with Open and Start.
       • Vehicles with Open and Start, disconnect the battery. Switch the ignition on and off. Open and close the drivers door. The steering lock and ignition lock engage automatically.

  1. Lock the steering.
    2. 1.1. Turn the steering wheel into the straight-ahead position.
    1.2. Pull out the ignition key.
    1.3. Allow the steering lock to engage.

    Note: Note the installation position of the clamp bolts.

  2. Remove the 2 clamp bolts (1) and (2).
  3. Compress the intermediate shaft lightly and remove.

Installation Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

    Note: Before inserting the clamp bolt, make certain that the steering shaft groove (arrow) is flush with the bore in the intermediate shaft. Clean the thread and insert the bolt with locking compound. Note the installation position of the clamp bolt.

  1. Install the intermediate shaft to the steering shaft.
    2. • Slide the intermediate shaft onto the steering shaft.
    • Install the clamp bolt (1).

    Tighten
    Tighten to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Note: 

       • Ensure that the wheels are in the straight ahead position.
       • Before inserting the clamp bolt, make certain that the steering gear shaft groove (arrow) is flush with the bore in the intermediate shaft. Clean the thread and insert the bolt with locking compound.

  2. Install the intermediate shaft to the steering gear.
    3. • Slide the intermediate shaft onto the steering gear.
    • Install the clamp bolts (2).

    Tighten
    Tighten to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  3. Check the straight-ahead position, adjust if necessary. Refer to Straight Ahead Inspection.
