    Object Number: 1937635 Size: SH

    Important:

       • Check the straight-ahead position in all cases following service work on the steering gear. The straight-ahead position is attained when the boots sit tension-free over the length (l) between the rod grooves and the steering gear shaft and can be inserted in the intermediate shaft with a 360° offset. This is indicated by the boot being extended or compressed with the steering wheel, is in the straight-ahead position and the wheels not in the straight-ahead position. Disregard for vehicles with Open and Start.
       • For vehicles with Open and Start, disconnect the battery. Switch the ignition on and off. Open and close the drivers door. The steering and ignition lock engage automatically.

  1. Lock the steering.
  2. 1.1. Turn the steering wheel into the straight-ahead position.
1.2. Pull out the ignition key.
1.3. Allow the steering lock to engage.
  3. Remove the intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  4. Turn the steering gear shaft until the boots are the same length on both sides and the wheels are in the straight-ahead position.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the intermediate steering shaft to the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  2. Slight deviations from the straight-ahead position for steering and the straight-ahead position for wheels can be corrected by adjusting the toe-in (change length of tie rods).
