Circuit Description

To control which direction the cruise control module moves the accelerator pedal the engine control module (ECM) commands the Cruise Control Servo Move Direction Signal circuit either high , wide open throttle (WOT) or low, idle. DTC P1582 will set if the ECM detects high feedback voltage when the Cruise Control Servo Move Direction Signal circuit should be low.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Every time the Cruise Control Servo Move Direction Signal circuit is commanded low, idle.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

    • The ECM detects high feedback voltage when the Cruise Control Servo Move Direction Signal circuit is commanded high and the brake pedal is depressed.
    • The ECM detects high feedback voltage when the Cruise Control Servo Move Direction Signal circuit is commanded low.
    • The condition exists for 500 ms.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The ECM stores the DTC information into memory when the diagnostic runs and fails.
    • The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) will not illuminate.
    • The ECM records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The ECM stores this information in the Failure Records.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • A last test failed, or current DTC, clears when the diagnostic runs and does not fail.
    • A history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported by this or any other non-emission related diagnostic.
    • Use a scan tool in order to clear the DTC.

Diagnostic Aids

    • To locate an intermittent problem, use a scan tool to perform Cruise Control Cycle special function with the ignition ON, engine OFF. The accelerator pedal should move to 50 percent throttle and then return to idle. If a short to ground exists the pedal will remain at rest or return to idle.
    • C/C Dir. Ckt.-High Volt and C/C Dir. Ckt.-Open test can be monitored to aid in diagnosing intermittent fault. If a fault exists, the scan tool will display Test Fail.
    • Loss of ground for the cruise control module can cause this DTC to set. If this condition exists DTC P01581 and P1587 will also set.

  1. Connect a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Using scan tool monitor C/C Dir. Ckt.-High Volt or C/C Dir. Ckt.-Open tests.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the cruise control module at the harness connector.
  3. Connect a test light between the Cruise Control Servo Move Direction Signal circuit and a good ground.
  4. Using scan tool monitor C/C Dir. Ckt.-High Volt and C/C Dir. Ckt.-Open tests.

Inspect Cruise Control Servo Move Direction Signal circuit for short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect Cruise Control Servo Move Direction Signal circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Use a scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
  2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC as specified in the supporting text.
