The instrument panel cluster (IPC) generates the audible warning through an internal speaker in the IPC. The IPC receives audible warning requests via serial data messages from the body control module (BCM) to activate a chime for various vehicle features. After the IPC receives the chime request, the IPC sends a serial data message to the BCM confirming the activation of the requested chime.

Important: Before performing this diagnostic, make sure no indicators are illuminated after the IPC performs a lamp test. If any indicators are illuminated after the bulb test, perform the indicator diagnostics before this diagnostics.

1. Ignition OFF, place the key in the ignition cylinder, open the driver door and verify the courtesy lamps illuminate.

⇒	If the courtesy lamps do not illuminate, refer to Courtesy Lamps Inoperative .

2. Ignition ON, scan tool installed, perform the instrument panel cluster (IPC) scan tool Special Functions Chime Test.

⇒	If the chime does not sound, replace the IPC.

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
