Diagnostic Aids

    • Inspect wiring harness for damage. Check for broken or chaffed insulation.
    • If fault is suspected to be intermittent, wiggling harness wiring may help in locating fault.
    • Check for poor connections at the BCM. Inspect harness connectors for backed out terminals, improper terminal mating, broken connector locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals and poor terminal-to-wire connection (terminal crimped over wire insulation and not conductors).

DEFINITION: The low washer fluid indicator always indicates low washer fluid or does not illuminate when washer fluid is low.

Verify the fault is present.

Does the system operate normally?

Go to Diagnostic Aids

Go to Step 2

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the washer fluid level switch connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Wait 60 seconds.

Does the low washer fluid indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire from the washer fluid level switch signal circuit terminal in the washer fluid level switch connector to ground.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Wait 60 seconds.

Does the low washer fluid indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a fused jumper wire across the washer fluid level switch harness connector terminals.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Wait 60 seconds.

Does the low washer fluid indicator illuminate?

Test the low washer fluid indicator signal circuit for a short to ground.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 12

Test the low washer fluid indicator signal circuit for an open or high resistance.

Repair the washer fluid level switch ground circuit for an open or high resistance.

Did you complete the replacement?

Inspect for poor connections at the washer fluid level switch.

Replace the washer fluid level switch. Refer to Washer Pump/Reservoir Replacement .
