Diagnosis and Repair Procedure

  1. Open the hood.
  2. If a leak or obstruction is suspected, attempt to visually inspect the washer system to determine the problem.
  3. Inspect the windshield washer bottle for adequate fluid level, contamination, or freezing.
  4. Remove the hose from the pump and verify the fluid flow when the washer system is operated.
  5. If no flow is found, check to see if the windshield washer pump operates by feeling the pump for vibration when system is operated.
  6. If vibration is present but no flow, replace the windshield washer pump. Refer to Washer Pump Replacement .
  7. If no vibration is present, refer to Diagnostic System Check - Wiper/Washer in this section.
  8. If sufficient flow is present, go to the next step.

  10. If a leakage or blockage is not found, remove the grommet and hose from passenger side connection at liftgate.
  11. Using a low pressure air supply (5 psi or less), carefully blow through hose at the liftgate to the washer nozzle connection.
  12. If insufficient flow is found, remove the nozzle and blow through the hose only.
  13. If a leak or blockage exists, replace the rear hose. Refer to Rear Window Washer Nozzle Hose Replacement .
  14. If no blockage exists, blow through the nozzle from the outlet (small end) towards the inlet (large end).
  15. Reconnect the washer nozzle to the washer hose and retest.
  16. If a blockage still exists, replace the nozzle. Refer to Rear Window Washer Nozzle Replacement .
  17. If a blockage was not found in the rear hose or nozzle, check for leakage or blockage in the front and center washer hose.

  19. Disconnect the front washer hose for the rear washer system at the windshield washer pump.
  20. Use a low pressure air supply (5 psi or less) and blow through the hose at the liftgate hose and have an assistant check for sufficient air flow out of the front windshield washer hose.
  21. If the flow is insufficient, remove the windshield pillar trim.
  22. Disconnect the hose at windshield pillar.
  23. Using a low pressure air supply (5 psi or less), blow through the hose at the windshield pillar to pump.
  24. If a leak or blockage exists, replace the front washer hose. Refer to Rear Window Washer Nozzle Hose Replacement .
  25. If a leakage or blockage was not found in the front or rear washer hose, remove the headliner and inspect for leakage or blockage in the center washer hose.
  26. If leakage or blockage is found, refer to Rear Window Washer Nozzle Hose Replacement .
