Rear Side Door Adjustment Coupe

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the rocker cover. Refer to Rocker Panel Molding Replacement in Exterior Trim.

  2. Object Number: 866882  Size: SH
  3. Tape around the edge of the quarter panel to prevent damage while aligning the rear door.
  4. Inspect the quarter panel to rear compartment lid alignment and align if necessary. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Adjustment in Body Rear End.
  5. Remove the upper and lower strikers. Refer to Front Side Door Lock Striker Replacement and Rear Side Door Lock Striker Adjustment

  6. Object Number: 866931  Size: SH
  7. If necessary, mark the location of the quarter panel. Remove the quarter outer panels and loosen the upper fasteners. Move the quarter panel outboard for access to the hinge fasteners.

  8. Object Number: 869313  Size: SH
  9. Loosen the locating cone nuts. Grab the flattened end with a 4 mm (5/32 in) wrench or pliers to prevent the cone pin from spinning while loosening the nut.

  10. Object Number: 859357  Size: SH
  11. Adjust the position of the rear door using the door-side of hinges for cross-car and up/down, and the body-side hinges for fore/aft and up/down.
  12. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

    Notice: If locating cone nut is over-torqued, cone shaft will break. Should locating cone break, remove broken cone from hinge pillar and replace with a new hinge.

  13. When the desired door position is achieved, tighten the locating cones. Grab the flattened end of the stud with 4 mm (5/32 in) wrench or pliers to prevent the cone from spinning while tightening the nut.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the door aignment cone nut (Coupe) to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  15. Use the Snap-On Flank Drive Torque Adapter P/N FRDHM10 or equivalent and the torque conversion chart to tighten the hinge bolts without removing the quarter panel.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the rear door-to-body bolts (Coupe) to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  17. Install the upper and lower strikers. Refer to Front Side Door Lock Striker Replacement and Rear Side Door Lock Striker Adjustment .
  18. Tighten

        • Tighten the rear door upper striker-to-body bolts (Coupe) to 32 N·m (24 lb ft).
        • Tighten the rear door lower striker-to-body bolts (Coupe) to 25 N·m (25 lb ft).
  19. Adjust the door strikers. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Adjustment in Body Rear End.
  20. Install the rocker cover. Refer to Rocker Panel Molding Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  21. Test for windnoise and waterleaks.

Rear Side Door Adjustment Sedan/Wagon


    Object Number: 863705  Size: SH
  1. Note the original position of the door lock striker. Remove the striker. On the rear door DO NOT remove the stabilizer. The pin remains in place for the adjustment.
  2. Loosen the hinge-to-hinge pillar bolts, up, down, forward or rearward.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Inboard or outboard adjustment can be done with the door to hinge bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the rear door hinge-to-door bolts (Sedan/Wagon) to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  6. Move the door within the door opening to achieve the best alignment and operation.
  7. Install the striker to approximately the proper position.
  8. Adjust the striker. If the striker is removed, make sure the proper amount of shims are in place. Check the seals for proper engagement.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the rear door striker fasteners to 25 N·m (19 lb ft).
