Removal procedure

  1. Lift and support the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  2. Remove the coolant bridge. Refer to Engine Coolant Crossover Pipe Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 951932  Size: SH
  4. Remove the intake manifold spacer assembly.
  5. Remove the oil feed line from the engine oil cooler.
  6. Remove the return line from the engine oil cooler.
  7. Ensure all 4 seals are accounted for.
  8. Caution: Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which the components are being removed.

  9. Raise and support the vehicle.

  11. Remove the oil filter housing.
  12. Remove the crank sensor bolt.
  13. Remove the crank sensor.
  14. Remove the engine oil cooler line clamp.

  16. Remove the oil feed line from the engine block.
  17. Remove the return line from the engine block.
  18. Remove the oil feed line.
  19. Remove the return line.
  20. Lower the vehicle.

  22. Remove the engine oil cooler inlet and outlet nuts.
  23. Remove the engine oil cooler cover bolts.
  24. Remove the engine oil cooler.
  25. Important: Before cleaning the mating surface, plug the cylinder ports with clean rags to keep debris from entering the intake ports.

  26. Clean all sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 894245  Size: SH
  1. Install new O-ring seals onto the oil cooler.
  2. Install the engine oil cooler.

  3. Object Number: 881246  Size: SH
  4. Apply a 2 mm (.008 in) bead of P/N 12378521, or equivalent, in the groove around the engine oil cooler cover in place of an oil seal.
  5. Install the engine oil cooler cover.
  6. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 881212  Size: SH
  7. Install the engine oil cooler cover bolts using the torque sequence shown.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the engine oil cooler cover bolts -- L81 to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  9. Install the engine oil cooler inlet and outlet nuts.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the engine oil cooler inlet and outlet nuts -- L81 to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

    Caution: Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which the components are being removed.

  11. Attach the oil cooler line set at the oil cooler.
  12. Raise and support the vehicle.
  13. Install the oil feed line.
  14. Install the return line.
  15. Install the oil feed line to the engine block.
  16. Install the return line to the engine block.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the oil cooler feed and return lines-to-engine block -- L81 to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  18. Install the engine oil cooler line clamp.

  19. Object Number: 894746  Size: SH
  20. Install the crank sensor.
  21. Install the crank sensor bolt.
  22. Tighten
    Tighten the crankshaft position sensor bolt -- L81 to 8 N·m (71 LB in).

  23. Install the oil filter housing.
  24. Install the oil filter cap with the element.
  25. Tighten
    Tighten the oil filter cap to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  26. Lower the vehicle.
  27. Install the oil feed and install return lines to the engine oil cooler. Use 4 new seals.
  28. Tighten
    Tighten the oil cooler feed and return lines-to-cooler -- L81 to 30 N·m(22 lb ft) +15 degrees.

  29. Install the intake manifold spacer assembly.
  30. Tighten
    Tighten the intake manifold spacer bolts -- L81 to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  31. Install the coolant bridge. Refer to Engine Coolant Crossover Pipe Replacement .
  32. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  33. Inspect and fill as necessary.
