Removal Procedure

Caution: Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which the components are being removed.

  1. Place a drain pan or suitable container under the vehicle.
  2. Position the vehicle on a hoist.

  3. Object Number: 945432  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler lines from the radiator.
  5. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  6. Object Number: 945444  Size: SH
  7. Remove the transaxle cooler line assembly nut from the transaxle.

  9. Remove the transaxle cooler lines from the vehicle.

  10. Replace the transaxle oil cooler pipe seals. Refer to the Fluid Cooler Pipe Seal Replacement procedure located in this manual.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Install the transaxle oil cooler line assembly to the transaxle.
  2. Install the transaxle oil cooler line assembly nut.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the transaxle oil cooler lines to 7 N·m(62 lb-in).

  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Connect the transaxle oil cooler lines to the radiator.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the transaxle cooler line fittings to 16 N·m(12 ft-lb).

    Notice: Saturn automatic transaxle fluid (ATF), P/N 21005966 and P/N 21019223, is not compatible with this transaxle. If Saturn ATF is used, transaxle damage will result. This transaxle uses Saturn T-IV fluid P/N 22689186.

  7. Add fluid to the transaxle. Refer to the Transmission Fluid Check located in this manual.
  8. Start the engine a check for leaks.
