Removal Procedure

  1. Turn the steering wheel to the straight forward position, support it from movement, and remove the key from the ignition.
  2. Disable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
  3. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  4. Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement .
  5. Remove the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement.
  6. Remove the multifunction turn signal switch housing. Refer to Multifunction Turn Signal Switch Housing Replacement.
  7. Remove the ignition lock cylinder case. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Case Replacement .
  8. Remove the instrument panel left insulator panel. Refer to. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side.

  10. Remove the 2 upper steering column mounting bolts.

  11. Object Number: 928861  Size: SH
  12. Remove the lower steering column mounting bolt.
  13. Important: Do not remove the steering column to intermediate shaft pinch bolt.

  14. Support the lower column as necessary.

  15. Object Number: 1829986  Size: SH
  16. Remove the 3 jacket mounting bolts and remove the upper jacket from the steering column.

Installation Procedure

  1. Clean the column shaft splines.
  2. Use the supplied grease to apply 2 grams (0.07 oz) of grease to the column shaft splines.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Position the jacket on the steering column and install the 3 bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  6. Install and hand tighten the 2 upper steering column mounting bolts.

  7. Object Number: 928861  Size: SH
  8. Install the lower steering column mounting bolt.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  10. Tighten the 2 upper steering column mounting bolts.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 8 N·m (71 lb in)

  12. Install the instrument panel left insulator panel. Refer to. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side.
  13. Install the ignition lock cylinder case. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Case Replacement .
  14. Install the multifunction turn signal switch housing. Refer to Multifunction Turn Signal Switch Housing Replacement.
  15. Install the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement.
  16. Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement .
  17. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  18. Enable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
  19. Road test the vehicle. Verify proper steering operation.
