Instrument Cluster (IPC) System Check

  1. Leave the safety belt unbuckled.
  2. Verify that the gear selector is in the PARK position.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (II). Do not start the engine.

(Note: the Fasten Safety Belt indicator will start to flash after 4 seconds.)

The system performs a bulb test on the following indicators (the indicator lamps illuminate briefly for 4 seconds):

    • ABS
    • Sport Mode (1st and 2nd design) / Auto Trans Malfunction (2nd design)
    • Automatic Transmission Malfunction (1st design)
    • Brake Pad Wear
    • Engine Coolant Temperature
    • Low Oil Level
    • Low Fuel
    • Low Coolant Level
    • Low Washer Fluid
    • Leveling
    • The ABS indicator does not illuminate.
         Diagnostic System Check - ABS in ABS
    • The Sport Mode indicator does not illuminate.
    • The A/T MIL does not illuminate.

    •  Automatic Level Control Suspension System Check in Automatic Level Control

Continue to observe the indicator lamps with the ignition switch in the ON position.

The following indicator lamps remain illuminated after 4 seconds:

    • BRAKE TO SHIFT
    • Charging
    • CHECK ENGINE
    • Fasten Safety Belt (flashes for 60 seconds)
    • Oil Pressure

The Air Bag indicator flashes 6 times.

    • The BRAKE TO SHIFT indicator does not illuminate.

    • The Charging indicator does not illuminate.

    • The CHECK ENGINE indicator does not illuminate.

    • Buckle the driver's safety belt.
    • Observe the fasten safety belt indicator.

The fasten safety belt indicator is off.

Apply the park brake.

The park brake indicator illuminates.

  1. Operate the left hand turn signal.
  2. Operate the right hand turn signal.
    • The left hand turn signal indicator flashes with the tail lamp.
    • The right hand turn signal indicator flashes with the tail lamp.
    •  Turn Signal Lamps Inoperative in Lighting Systems
    •  Turn Signal Lamps Inoperative in Lighting Systems
    •  Turn Signal Indicators Inoperative in Lighting Systems

Turn the headlamp switch knob clockwise to the 2nd position.

The IPC illumination turns on and dims to the setting on the dimmer control.

Adjust the instrument panel dimmer control.

The IPC illumination varies based on the dimmer control adjustment.

Turn the fog lamps on.

The fog lamp indicator illuminates.

Turn the high beam headlamps on.

The high beam indicator illuminates.

Start the engine.

The engine cranks and starts.

Observe the fuel gauge.

The fuel gauge appears to operate.

    • Observe the oil pressure gauge.
    • Listen for the low engine oil pressure warning chime.
    • The oil pressure gauge appears to operate. Oil pressure gauge reads approximately 20 psi.
    • The warning chime is not operating.

Observe the low engine oil level indicator.

The low engine oil level indicator is off.

Observe the tachometer.

The tachometer appears to operate.

Observe the engine coolant temperature gauge.

The engine coolant temperature gauge appears to operate. Gauge indicates current engine temperature.

    • Cycle the gear selector lever through all the gear positions.
    • Observe the park brake indicator.
    • Observe the BRAKE TO SHIFT indicator.
    • The park brake indicator turns off.
    • The BRAKE TO SHIFT indicator is off when the vehicle is out of park.

Drive the vehicle at 48 km/h (30 mph).

The speedometer and odometer operate properly.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Open the fuel cap.
  3. Turn ON the ignition.

Fuel cap indicator turns on.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Close the fuel cap.
  3. Turn ON the ignition.
