Tools Required

1. Remove the upper tilt head components. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head - Off Vehicle .
2. Remove the tilt spring. Refer to Tilt Spring - Off Vehicle .



3. Remove 2 wire harness straps (2). Remove 1 wire harness strap (2) from the steering column tilt head assembly (1).



4. Pop the wire harness assembly (1) out from the wire harness strap (2).



5. Slide the 2 connectors (2) from the turn signal & multifunction switch assembly out from the ignition & key alarm switch assembly connector (1).



6. Remove 2 pan head tapping screws (2).
7. Remove the turn signal & multifunction switch assembly (1).



8. Remove the adapter & bearing assembly (2) from the steering column jacket assembly (1).



9. Remove 2 pivot pins (3) from the steering column support assembly (1) using J 21854-01  (2).



10. Install the tilt lever and pull to disengage the steering column tilt head assembly (1) with the steering shaft assembly (3) from the steering column jacket assembly (2).



11. Remove the steering shaft assembly (2) from the steering column tilt head assembly (1).

Important: Mark the race & upper shaft assembly and the lower steering shaft assembly to ensure proper assembly. Failure to assemble properly will cause steering wheel to be turned 180 degrees.

12. Mark the upper steering shaft assembly and mark the lower steering shaft assembly to show alignment.



13. Separate the lower steering shaft assembly (2) from the race & upper shaft assembly (1).



14. Remove 4 torx screws (2) from the steering column support assembly (1).

1. Install the steering column support assembly (1) to the steering column jacket assembly (3).

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

2. Install 4 torx screws (2).

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).




3. Install the centering sphere (1) and the joint preload spring (2) using J 41688 .
4. Lubricate the centering sphere (1) with lithium grease.



5. Compress the centering sphere and joint preload spring. Rotate the driver 90 degrees in the clockwise direction until the arms lock in place.



6. Install the race & upper shaft assembly (1). Rotate the race & upper shaft assembly 90 degrees.



7. Remove the race & upper shaft assembly with J 41688 . Once removed, you may remove the race & upper shaft assembly with the centering sphere.



8. Apply lithium grease to the race & upper shaft assembly (1).
9. Install the lower steering shaft assembly (2) to the race and upper shaft assembly (1).



10. Align the marks made on the upper steering shaft assembly with the marks on lower steering shaft assembly.
11. Install the lower steering shaft assembly onto the centering sphere within the upper steering shaft assembly.



12. Install the steering column tilt head assembly (1) to the steering column jacket assembly (4).
13. Stake the pivot pin locations (2).



14. Install the turn signal & multifunction switch assembly (2).
15. Install the 2 pan head tapping screws (1).

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).




16. Install the lock module assembly (1).
17. Install the three pan head tapping screws (2).

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).




18. Install the ignition & key alarm switch assembly (1).
19. Install the 2 tapping screws (2).

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).




20. Install the key alarm connector (1) to the lock module assembly (2).



21. Slide the 2 connectors (2) of the turn signal & multifunction switch assembly into the ignition & key alarm switch assembly connector (1).



22. Route the wire harness assembly (1) around the column and put into the wire harness strap (2).



23. Install 2 wire harness straps (2). Install 1 wire harness strap (2) into the steering column tilt head assembly (1).
24. Install the tilt spring. Refer to Tilt Spring - Off Vehicle .
25. Install the upper tilt head components. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head - Off Vehicle .
