Test Description

The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step tests the resistance of the pulse/delay signal circuit through the windshield wiper/washer switch from the pigtail connector C219.

  2. This step tests the pulse/delay resistors in the windshield wiper/washer switch from the pigtail connector C219.

  3. This step tests the resistance of the windshield wiper/washer switch on signal circuit through the windshield wiper/washer switch from the pigtail connector C219.

Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Turn the ignition on.
  2. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch through all the switch positions.

Does the windshield wiper/washer system operate normal?

--

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Disconnect the windshield wiper/washer switch pigtail connector.
  2. Test the resistance through the windshield wiper/washer switch from the accessory voltage supply circuit to the windshield wiper/washer switch pulse/delay signal circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.
  3. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch to the following positions:
  4. • Mist
    • Low
    • High

Is the resistance within the specified values?

0-2 ohms

Go to Step 4

  1. While measuring resistance through the windshield wiper/washer switch as in the previous step, turn the switch to the int position.
  2. Turn the int adjust band through all the positions.

Does the resistance remain within the specified values through all of the pulse/delay positions?

35K-685K ohms

  1. Test the resistance through the windshield wiper/washer switch from the accessory voltage supply circuit to the windshield wiper/washer switch on signal circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.
  2. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch to the following positions:
  3. • Mist
    • Int
    • Low
    • High

Is the resistance at or near the specified value?

24K ohms

Test and repair the windshield wiper/washer switch pulse/delay signal circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test and repair the windshield wiper/washer switch on signal circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test and repair the windshield wiper/washer switch pulse/delay signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
